I was born in San Diego, California, but due to my father being in the military I never actually was able to call one particular place home. I’ve traveled often, and lived in a number of cities throughout America. I have also had the pleasure of living outside of America - in Germany, as well as Japan. My travels have allowed me to become greatly respectful of the cultures that I reside with.
I admire all of the knowledge that there is to gain. In 1999 I received a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from California State University in Sacramento, California. Then in 2006 I received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.
I have always been an artist, but while studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design I fell in love with photography. I became inspired by the art of self-portraits when a few years ago I was shown apiece in school titled Political Self-Portrait #2 (Race) created by Adrian Piper. Needless to say this also got me to thinking about the use of those same portraits to comment on race, and it’s social effects in American culture. My work since then has been race based. Not to create any type of friction between racial groups in this country, but to express my own observations concerning my own culture. I’ve been striving to produce work that creates a dialogue within the black community as well as offering other groups the opportunity to flow freely with their own opinions.
Currently I am living, working and creating art in the city of Austin, Texas.
